About Kelly

Angela Kelly Smith set up shop to sell her paintings at the end of her driveway when she was 7 years old—an effort that was quickly scuttled by her mother. She received a bachelor’s degree in biological anthropology from Harvard College, a master’s degree in biology from Tufts Graduate School of Arts and Science, and a master’s degree in communication from Johns Hopkins University.

Kelly went to business school at Rice University but dropped out after the first year to become a full-time artist (and because her then-husband got a promotion at work that moved the family to Mexico).

She had her first solo show (under the pseudonym Ana Kelly) in 2003. Her short film, “dotted lines,” was selected for the juried Three Rivers Film Festival in Pittsburgh, PA. Her experimental film work was highlighted in a live performance (“The 31st Chair”) with the Attack Theatre dance company and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. She acted as a co-producer on the BAFTA Award-winning film “Control” (2007). She was the assistant editor of the feature documentary “Introducing Brian Broome.”

Kelly is a co-host of the podcast Geek Girl Soup—since 2012—now in its 13th season (around 600 episodes). She was the host of two retired podcasts: Podcast Launchpad and Marketing Chat Podcast.

Since 1999, she has worked variously as a marketing consultant, copyeditor and copywriter, life coach, website designer, and podcast consultant.

She is currently enrolled at University of Texas McCombs School of Business in a certification program in full stack software development.
