Present Tense

“Present Tense” is a series of monochromatic paintings of acrylic and paper on canvas, with the paper creating the depth and structure of each piece. For me, these pieces exude an energy that is trying to control our feelings of the moment, not so that we may not feel, but so that we may fully transform. This series is not one of pain, but of power—the story of finding one’s Self in separation. We do not have control over our feelings, just as I do not control the folds in the paper between paint and canvas. The paper wrinkles at will. What we can control is how we express our emotions and how we allow them—or not—to consume us.
