74: Why I Don’t Use ChatGPT

AI

***PLEASE READ: I recorded this episode a couple of weeks before interviewing David Forman of Clarity Creative Group for ep. 77 on when and when not to use ChatGPT. I went into that interview with an open mind. And, sure enough, David taught me some ways that I’m totally down for using ChatGPT.

I thought about scrapping this episode as a result. But I decided to let it stand. I’ll be putting out an episode about a month from now on how I’ve started to use ChatGPT. 😊

I still have the same reservations about it that I express in this episode. I just want you to know that I’m not closed-minded—as you might suspect from this episode! Note that my focus in this episode is on using ChatGPT to create content—as opposed to tweaking or creating lists or generating questions, as David and I discuss in our interview. Be sure to check that out when it comes out!

ChatGPT, Midjourney, and other content-generating AI are hot topics for podcasters right now. All of this software is supposed to make our lives “easier” and “better.” In spite of having tried out some of the software, I’m not using it to create content for me.

I have personal reasons for not using it and several more global concerns.

“I understand that most people hate writing. I understand that writing is a skill that has to be learned, practiced, and honed. And that is something is most people either don’t have time to do or don’t want to do. It can be frustrating.”

In this episode, I discuss:

  • Why I’m so precious about my words and my voice

  • Why I’m concerned about AI displacing writers and artists

  • Why children need to grow up writing and creating art from scratch

  • Copyright issues around AI-generated content

  • The potential legal issues of who owns the intellectual property of AI-generated content

My blog post that is almost a direct transcript
